Day 3

Updated: Jul 2, 2018

We met early at the Old Medical School and took a taxi to the New Royal Infirmary at the Little France campus, a very new building with up to date technology, and thankfully, coffee! The initial lecture on health care acquired infections was also attended by registrars and doctors. We had interactive sections including a quiz, where we had to vote on the infection we thought was most prevalent, which aided a quick discussion among our group and allowed us to refer back to the infectious diseases we had observed on the ward the previous day. After a coffee and cake (thank you Medhat) we followed Rebecca to join doctors discussing a research paper on herpes viremia. The research was really interesting and the discussion afterwards gave an insight into how medical professionals keep on top of advances in research.

After lunch our group were set the task of designing a course for the MSc CMID programme. This was a really fun and engaging task and the six of us worked well together.... Till and Medhat seemed pleased at least! We came back into town and popped into Doctors for a drink before heading out for dinner. We ate at the Outsider on King George IV Bridge. Over wine (a lovely Romanian Pinot Noir for me), we got to chat and know our course organisers a little better. The food was fantastic, my steak literally melting in my mouth. Till had arranged a ghost tour by Rory (full time BMS student by day, ghost tour guide by night) for us after dinner which took us to areas of the city I had not ventured to...it was a really nice and different way to hear some of Edinburgh's gruesome history, and we had a lot of laughs. It was late by the time I returned to my room but a worthwhile day on all accounts.
