The Infectious Diseases Symposium at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh afforded a lot of insight into many different areas of research presented by a multitude of specialists. My favourite was presented by Professor John Frater on HIV cure- fundamental need or research fantasy. HIV is an area I find especially interesting and this research is something that has got me thinking about an area for my dissertation next year.

All the learning was hungry work so a few of us went for dinner at Whiski Rooms. The burger was huge, the wine too! Then Tara and I took the Mary King's Close tour, definitely a must. The 'underground' streets were a real eye opener as to the way people lived 400 years, although I was extremely happy no one wanted to make it more real by throwing the toilet buckets down the street!
